Learn everything you need to know about teaching. It’s why we’re here.
In fact, research shows that teachers are the most important in-school factor affecting student success. Effective teachers not only improve outcomes for all students, they hold high standards that motivate students to persist in school and feel connected and capable.
Yet New York, like most U.S. states, faces a growing demand for teachers. In fact, the state anticipates needing as many as 180,000 new teachers over the next decade. (1)(2)(3)
At TeachNY, we envision a world where all kids have access to great educators.
Our mission is to end the statewide teacher shortage and diversify the teaching profession.
TEACH New York (TeachNY) launched in March 2024, as part of a partnership between NYSED and TEACH.org. We’re proud to be leading the way to find the next generation of great New York teachers.
TeachNY is made possible thanks to our generous philanthropic funders.
TEACH.org began as an initiative of the U.S. Department of Education with clear goals: Reduce the national teacher shortage, elevate the image of the teaching profession and support anyone interested in teaching. We became an independent nonprofit in 2015 and have since grown into one of the nation’s largest and most effective teacher recruitment organizations.
Teaching is a fulfilling, creative and powerful profession. But how do you know if it’s right for you? And how do you get started in the profession?
TeachNY is here to make it easy to explore teaching and take steps to become a teacher.
We support future teachers from all backgrounds, from high school students to college grads, career changers to school staff members. No matter where you’re starting, we’ll help you learn about the career—and find a path that fits your life.
