BOCES stands for Boards of Cooperative Educational Services. In a nutshell, BOCES are a network of 37 regional chapters across New York State. Each chapter offers programs and services to local school districts, like summer school, transportation, professional development for educators and more. Shared services help districts get programs and support they might not be able to afford otherwise!
BOCES support smaller districts in New York, so there are no BOCES chapters in the “Big Five” school districts—Buffalo, New York City, Rochester, Syracuse and Yonkers.
