Revered as one of the nation’s largest alternative teacher preparation programs, NYC Teaching Fellows allows teaching candidates to get a head start on their teaching journey by pairing them with seasoned teachers in the classroom.
The NYC Teaching Collaborative empowers teaching candidates and students from high-needs schools. The collaboration allows teaching candidates to work alongside school administrators and faculty to help students achieve academic excellence.
To recruit more Black, Latino, and Asian male teachers, the Young Men’s Initiative teamed up with the Department of Education, the City University of New York, and the Center for Economic Opportunity to provide teaching candidates of color with professional and leadership development initiatives.
The American Museum of Natural History provides a fully paid fellowship to recent college graduates pursuing a career as a science teacher. This intensive 15-month Master of Arts Program prepares teaching residents to empower students in high-needs middle and high schools through scientific and pedagogical teachings.
Under the Empire State Teacher Residency Program, NYC Public Schools has teamed up with eight NYC colleges and universities to develop a 2-year teacher residency program. Teaching candidates who enroll in a qualifying school will receive an annual stipend of $30,000.
The Teaching Residents at Teachers College (better known as TR@TC) is an 18-month teaching residency program for graduate students who intend to teach in NYC public schools. The first year is dedicated to intensive coursework to ensure the candidates are prepared to be in the classroom. The following year residents are paired with seasoned Mentor Teachers who will supervise their student teaching.
