Teacher of Opportunity Scholarship
Teacher Opportunity Corps II (TOC II) aims to bring more diversity to the teaching profession by supporting historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged individuals in becoming educators. TOC II offers practical strategies to help new teachers thrive, like mentorship programs and tailored teaching techniques. In 2016, NYSED awarded $3 million in grants to 16 colleges and universities to boost the retention of diverse, highly qualified teachers—especially in high-need schools that face ongoing teacher shortages. The goal is to build a teaching force that reflects the diversity of our classrooms and communities, ensuring every student has the chance to succeed.
