Siena College has two undergraduate education programs.
Birth-Grade 6 Program: The undergraduate program in Early Childhood and Childhood Education leads to a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood and Childhood Education, and provides the coursework and fieldwork required for initial certification for both Birth-Grade 2 and Grades 1- 6 in New York State and reciprocal states. Adolescence Education (Dual Major): The Adolescence Education Program, also known as the Education Dual Major, is designed for students interested in becoming certified to teach Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, English, French, Mathematics, Physics, Social Studies or Spanish at the secondary level (grades 7-12). To be eligible for the program, you must complete the education course requirements and the requirements for a major in a content area. Visit Siena’s Education Dual Major page to learn more.
You can complete the Education Certificate program if you want to teach business and marketing (all-grade certification).

Program Overview
Early Childhood and Childhood Education (Birth-Grade 6)
Your coursework in the first two years focuses on developing a foundational knowledge of teaching and learning.
The final two years dive into specific strategies for promoting literacy, developing teaching methods across content areas, and fostering an effective classroom for all learners.
The program culminates with full-time student teaching in the final semester.
Adolescence Education (Dual Major)
In the first three years, you will focus on content area major requirements and four foundational education courses.
In your senior year, you will focus on instructional methods and fieldwork in the fall and complete your student teaching in the spring.
