About
Founded in 1871, State University of New York Geneseo is a public liberal arts honors college with a strong tradition of academic excellence. Students learn to think critically, communicate effectively and consider multiple perspectives to solve challenging problems. Geneseo's high-performing students engage with exceptional faculty and equally driven peers through research, co-curricular and integrated learning opportunities. Geneseo has 4,000 undergraduate students and 60 graduate students. The college is a short drive from Rochester and Buffalo.
SUNY Geneseo began as a teacher training institute nearly 150 years ago, and teacher education remains one of its most popular majors. The School of Education offers undergraduate programs leading to initial teacher certification in:
- Early childhood and childhood education
- Students with disabilities and childhood education
- Adolescence education
All teacher certification programs are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation.
