At the undergraduate level, you can earn a bachelor’s degree in childhood education and get certified to teach grades 1-6. 

The 5-year combined programs allow you to complete a bachelor’s and master’s program on an accelerated timeline. Programs are available in adolescence education grades 7-12 and childhood and special education grades 1-6. 

At the graduate level, SUNY Plattsburgh offers three fully online master’s programs that lead to initial teaching certification. These programs are well-suited for working professionals and career changers looking for flexible, self-paced courses and hands-on experiences close to home. The following programs are available:

SUNY Plattsburgh’s Bachelor of Science in Childhood Education program is for future teachers who want to make a difference in the lives of young people. This program leads to initial New York State teaching certification and is accredited by the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP).


The program prepares you to teach students in grades 1-6, with a distinctive feature being hands-on experience through elementary school placements every semester, starting in your first term. You can choose to complete the program either part-time or full-time at SUNY Plattsburgh's beautiful campus in Plattsburgh, NY.
In this program, you'll learn how to:
