Founded in 1816, The State University of New York at Potsdam is one of America's first 50 colleges—and the oldest institution within SUNY. Program Info

The teacher education programs at SUNY Potsdam prepare you for elementary, middle and high school classrooms. Through coursework and hands-on field experiences, you'll learn about the teaching profession and how to teach students across grade levels effectively.

The Childhood/Early Childhood Education BA program is a combined major. You will earn an undergraduate degree that leads to two initial New York State teaching certifications:

  • Birth to Grade 2 and
  • Grades 1 to 6

Adolescent Education programs are available by subject area. You will earn an undergraduate degree leading to initial New York State teaching certification in one of the following subjects:

  • English (Grades 7-12)
  • Math (Grades 7-12)
  • Science (Grades 7-12)
  • Social Studies (Grades 7-12)
  • Art Education (K-12)
  • Music Education (K-12)

Some programs have an extension available for grades 5-6.
