Utica University is a non-profit private institution located in central New York. The Educator Preparation Program offers a wide variety of pathways to New York State classroom teaching certification in areas such as math, the sciences, special education, childhood and early childhood education and more. Utica offers programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Utica also offers an alternative certification graduate program to reduce the time to become certified and classroom-ready.

The Educator Preparation Program has been awarded grant funding, which the university uses to offset the cost of your tuition.

Utica University has earned the following achievements and awards: 

  • Per a 2023 survey, 100 percent of employers said they definitely would hire another Utica University teacher candidate.  
  • For the past three consecutive academic years, an education program student has earned the distinction of class valedictorian or salutatorian.  
  • In 2020, the Educator Preparation Program was awarded a $1.2 million scholarship to support STEM education candidates.

Utica University Undergraduate Education Programs prepare you to teach in the following certification areas:

Please note that some programs offer dual certification, such as early childhood and childhood education. These programs are designed for first-year college students and will prepare you with both content knowledge and the methods to engage a P-12 classroom properly. 

Utica faculty will teach most of your coursework in person. However, you can enroll in some courses the university offers online.

Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program- This scholarship provides funding to recruit and prepare STEM majors and professionals to become K-12 teachers. The program seeks to increase the number of K-12 teachers with strong STEM content knowledge who teach in high-need school districts.

Up to $3,000

Work Study, Working While Still Enrolled

Utica University has student employment options, including work-study. You can earn up to $3,000 per academic year in federal work-study funding.
